You are smart to consider the long term advantages of no replacement and less maintenance before replacing your flooring.

There are so many alternatives, that I will stick to assuming that you like the painted wood look. The recycled vinyl is an alternative, but so is redwood or exterior grade plywood grooved slightly on top before painting to appear anyway you want. On the plywood, which would be easiest to install and probably the cheapest overall, you would only need to put in a vinyl vapor barrier and seal off the edges with any number of methods ranging from concrete repair epoxy to plastic or other weatherproof moldings for a finished look.
