In Response To: Whole House Humidifiers (Bill T)

Bill,

No comment!:-)

I have yet to see a really good design for whole house humidifiers. Any time you are dealing with water and the junk that is in water, you will have problems with whatever you are "evaporating" it with. A drum builds up junk. An atomizer nozzle gets clogged..

My favorite was in my last house. It was built on a slab with the discharge from the furnace being dumped into a "hole" in the slab. The humidifier was just a tube coming off a selinoid that dumped into the hole with the discharge air. (an open 1/4" tube) The water just laid there until it evaporated. Of course there was a huge pile of lime there... but the humidfier never stopped working!

Whatever you install, make sure you can get to it easily, that it is a brand name that you can get parts for later, and that if using an atomizer that the placement of the spray pattern does not go into the plenium in such a manner as to "collect" water that could run down and damage something below.

Good luck!

Don
