In Response To: bathroom shower (Mike Sammons)

Mike,

If you are using a used valve, you are going to have to do some estimating. Use a small piece of drywall and a layer of something else that approximates the final finish depth of the wall and see where the valve should be with the finish hardware in place.

If you are buying a new valve, it should come with a template that tells you where to put it, but you can to the test with a small piece of approximated final finish in this case too if your concerned.

In most cases you are going to be pretty close if you use a 2x6 backer attached flush at the back of the 2x4's leaving about half the depth of the wall to accept the valve body. Sometimes you have to add a small layer of something on top of that to get it out a bit further.

Hope that helps!

Don
