The only vapor barrier I ever use is to coat the foundation walls with Dry-Lok or other type vapor barrier paint. This stops vapor penetration at its source.

Plastic poly sheets are extremely poor choices under any condition for vapor barriers, because they create an ideal surface upon which water vapor can condense...which leads to other problems.

Besides, if you are insulating with faced fiberglass, the paper face already is a vapor barrier.
