Jerry, That is a good question and one only your local code enforcement officer can answer.

You can find out by calling your local city/town hall and asking to speak with your code enforecement officer...

In some more rural areas, these duties are handled by the county.

Though most states have uniform building codes, each locality may alter the recommended state minimums to be stricter.

Modern codes usually require a minimum of 6'8" for door heights, so a 6' ceiling would not meet code, however, older homes are generally considered 'grandfathered in', in that they are not required to be brought up to modern code, they must only adhere to code in place at the time they were built.
