In Response To: hardwood floors (Ken Schell)

Ken,

I'm thinking that is is possible that the stain might show the water stains worse than if it were not stained at all. It's too bad that you probably don't have an area of the floor that you could experiment with since knowing the result before comitting to doing the whole floor would save a lot of time.

Once the stain is on you would have a lot larger job of getting the floor sanded down again to get past the stain to go back to natural. I don't know if there is an easy answer to your question. Whatever you do... without testing a small area... is where you will be commited. Maybe the answer is to do it with stain if that is the prefered look and without if you like the natural... and if the water stains are really unsightly when you get done.. an area rug might look nice there!:-)

The only time I ran across that the stains were minimal and a natural finish blended in nicely. Your case might be different..

Don
