Sagging floors

Posted By: Harry Morrissey

I recently purchased an old (150 yrs)two story home. The floors all sag toward the middle of the house. It looks like all the structural beams in the basement have been recently reinforced and that the beams at the outer walls have been jacked to the proper height (lolly poles ? are in place). I have been told that it is a simple thing to jack the one beam that is low. My question is what size jack will do the trick ? And are there any tricks that I should know about?

Thanks
