Need Porch Deck Waterproofing Ideas

I have asked this to roofers, canvas/awning, building inspectors, home renovators, and even boat (deck) repair people but everyone draws a blank.

The question: How do I recanvas or otherwise seal a second story exterior porch floor. The tongue and grove floor is structurally sound but not waterproof. Painted canvas seems to have done the job for many years but it has deteriorated and leaks. The owner ripped it all up leaving the bare floor. Someone surely has to know of a "modern" product or other directions. It is either a lost art or I am approaching the wrong people? The closest I got to an answer was a roofing supply person who recommended a special rubberized product but he did not seem confident it was good for foot traffic. Although it seems a little old fashioned to me, maybe applying canvas is still the best way. Upon checking with a canvas/awning supplier he said he never heard of such a thing. Any suggestions or referrals?

PS Someone I know just built a new home and applied the rubberized roofing material to a deck underneath indoor/outdoor carpeting. Is this the best answer?
