In Response To: forsed air duct sizing (steve flewitt)

Hi Steve,

Good question, I am guessing that you are adding a whole new addition or heating distribution system, if you are adding on to an existing system, 1st figure the cubic feet of the addition (L X W X H) to check if your existing system is capable of handling the extra load. If you are within the required parameters you should match size of existing duct work.

If you are replacing everything, the furnace, air conditioner, and the duct work, or installing for the first time, install the largest ducting possible and then largest BTU furnace that you can afford ( consider a 2-stage unit) for the most comfortable forced air. However it is best to get with a reputable heating and air company to help you figure particular needs for your part of the country.
