heating/cooling replacement

Hi..I have an air source heat pump...13 yrs old...came with the house...worthless as a source of heat..adequate as an air conditioner. I have been heating with wood for the past seven years but think it's time to get a furnace. QUESTION: Would I be better off getting a high efficiancy gas furnace (I will have to use Propane)and keeping the heat pump as the cooling unit(split system) or would you advise installing a "gaspac" combination system? Thanks!
