A Handyman Helping Hand

squeaky floors

My home a single story ranch, was built in 76'. The builders used 1x6 for the subfloor and sheeted over that with particle board. The majority of the house has carpet with the normal kitchen and bath covered in lanolium. My problem is that the high traffic areas, hallway and parts of the living room have begun to squeak when walked on. The noise has gotten increasingly annoying and gets worse as the weather conditions change from summer to winter. I have plenty of access to the floor joists from the crawl space below. However, I just don't know the best remedy to try and eliminate the squeak. It would be ideal to re-screw it from above, unfortunately I am not yet ready to replace the carpet due to the $$$. Any suggestions??
