Erosion is caused by water running through the area fast enough to carry the soil away so you have two options, divert the water of slow it down. If it can't run fast enough, it can't wash anything away. If you look along the sides of highways, you'll see two good examples of ways to solve this problem. If possible sow grass thick and let it stay a little taller than the rest of your lawn. The grass will hold the soil in place and a little extra height will slow the flow. If that option won't work, line the area with large rocks. The trick is to slow the flow.
