In Response To: Gas Water Heater (Bess Nacey)

I don't want to scare you but you could have TWO dangerous situations with your water heater. (1) If you have it set on the lowest setting and you're still getting 150 degree water something's not right. Temperatures that high can cause serious burns. (2) You say you have an odor in the basement. It could be caused by the dampness from the leak or it could be that the vent is not drawing the combustion fumes out like it should. If you have a vent problem and you could be getting dangerous levels of carbon monoxide gas which is deadly toxic. I have been fixing things around the house for over thirty years and I hate to pay somebody to come in and fix things but the way you describe your problem I'd be calling Sears and the sooner, the better. Good luck
