In Response To: Minwax Polyshades? (Bryan Cyr)

Call me old fashioned but I don't like polyurethane. It's beautiful until it's damaged and need patching but I've never heard of a good way to fix a scratch. And if you want to refinish it in a few years, forget it, it's there to stay. I love Minwax products but I also love old fashioned tung oil varnish for a finish coat. It's easy to apply, easy to repair and it just seems to give wood a natural glow. I'm also fond of shellac. It dries in minutes, is easy to repair, and it's non toxic so if your kids chew on the door trim, it won't hurt them.
