In Response To: cleaning dryer vent (Patti)

I've installed and/or replaced several dryer vents over the years and have seen two types. Either type is quite inexpensive if you need to replace it. If yours in the solid metal type, it's probably put together with duct tape or something similar. Pull the tape off and dismantle the vent in sections and wrap an old rag around a stick like an old broom handle and swab the lint out. Reassemble and wrap the loints with tape to hold it together. If yours is the flexible plastic type it probably needs replacing if it has much age on it so just pull it out and clean out the thimble which goes through the wall and replace the flexible vent pipe. Parts for replacement are available at Home Depot, Lowes or most any lumber company. Good luck
