In Response To: HYDROLICS (BOB OSLIN)

I built a dump bed for my ton-truck and installed a scissor type hydraulic lift kit (cost for the lift kit was about $2,000). For a pump I connected a direct drive PTO pump (cost was included in the lift kit). At about the same time a friend installed the same kind of lift kit on his ton truck but he installed an electric pump. The kit we both used is an Omaha Standard. I can haul and dump dirt, rock, mulch, etc all day long with no problems. My friend can dump 3 or 4 loads and it runs his battery down even with the engine running. Additionally, the electric pump only has up pressure and many PTO pumps also have down pressure which is good if you want to install a boom and have your truck double as a wrecker. The PTO pump will operate for many more years with less trouble than an electric pump. If you really want to install and electric pump, yes it will lift as much as the PTO pump but slower.
