A Handyman Helping Hand

HVAC

I am adding a second story addition to our 30'x40' ranch. I currently have a good oil furnace with a non-working AC unit. I would like to replace the AC unit (enough for both floors) and retain the use of my oil furnace. A chase would have to be run to the attic and then fed down the walls. Some contractors agree with me and others want me to change it all. They want to install an air handler in my attic and a new furnace in the basement. All of this would be electric. I do not want to change to electric. Supposedly an advantage to this type of system would be that I would have better control over the temperature on each floor. Couldn't this be done with dampers using a single location? Right now I am little confused as to all the pros, cons and pricing. Any advice is welcomed. Are there any good sources of info. on this subject anywhere? Thanks Again!
