A Handyman Helping Hand

laundry detergent in rug

Almost a full bottle of laundry detergent was spilled into my living room rug. I tried to use my rug shampooer to suck it out. I added water (tried both hot and cold) to dilute the detergent, but all I got was foam and a bigger mess. I was worried that if I put too much water it would seep down into the rug padding and mold. I tried for two hours to get the detergent out, and nothing I did worked. I left it alone overnight, and now I have a spot in my rug that feels greasy and stiff. What can I do? It's right in the middle of my living room and looks horrible!!
