In Response To: Fiberglass Tub Repair (Margaret)

It sounds as though the tub was not properly supported when installed. (or the material is really old and brittle...

You could use a epoxy surface patch, but anyone stepping on the patch would more than likely break it open again.

The sure fix is to remove the tub and patch it from underneath with an epoxy/fiberglass combination and make sure that the tub is reinstalled with support in that area.

Or, if the materal is pretty old, you might consider dropping in a new tub... properly supported. In any case unless you are good with plumbing and patching fiberglass I would call a pro.

But, the worse that could happen if you did a surface patch on top, is that you could avoid standing or stepping in that area, and maybe avoid the cost of repair/replacement a few more years..
