Hammer's oal

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows what part of a hammer that an "oal" is (it is measured in inches). I am thumbing through a hardware catalog and keep finding hammers with descriptions like: Excellent overall balance; Forged steel I-beam handle; Contoured, air cushioned, slip resistant grip; Hickory plug in head absorbs shock; Handle is wedged in tapered eye; 16" oal.

thanks for any help you can offer
