In Response To: old foundation sinking (Brad Gerner)

Brad,

You have a problem. Since the original foundation was not put below the frost line... ANY winter where there is a lot of ground upheaval due to freeze and thaw will make your problem continue to get worse. Pray for mild winters??

I'm no expert at replacing/repairing foundations below existing structures, but I would do a bunch of research and talk to many general contractors before investing any more time and money in the structure. Please don't assume that it is done sinking. I could in fact be getting much worse by the day depending in the undergound damage to the foundation walls.

Talk to lots of people in the building business. Very seldom will a contractor charge you to come out and give you and opinion and or estimate.

Don
