Norm,

Now there is an area I know very little about! Hmmmmm... have to revert to common sense. That could be really bad!

It is normal to put a broom finish on a driveway for a couple of reasons. It gives it a bit of traction and leaves it smooth enough to shovel off when the snow builds up.

Bringing the aggrigate to the surface can be very decorative, but makes it a pain to shovel, traction is better, makes it hard to walk on barefoot...

I don't know anything about durability. My experience has been that on sidewalks and driveways a brush finish is the 'norm' and in decorative patios and walkways aggrigate exposed has a pleasing effect. There is probably some reason for that... I just don't know what it is!
