I had the same problem. I just used Kilz stain blocker. I used a think roller to apply it to the sheet and used a narrow brush to get into the grooves. I had thought about using "hard as nails" caulk to fill the cracks. I am really glad that I left the grooves. The room look great and the grooves give it a nice quality. Make sure you apply two or three coast of Kilz before you use the paint.
