In Response To: Hot water (Jack Sotherland)

In some regions, the water is very hard. Hard water causes lime to accumulate at the bottom of the hot water tank. I am guessing that one of the hot water lines may be clogged with lime. I don't like to do this myself, so I won't tell you to do it. Just read and decide for yourself. Flush out the water tank. There is a release valve at the bottom of the tank for releasing water. At the top of the tank is the pressure release valve. Shut off the main line and the gas line, release the pressure valve, then open the water valve. If the water tank is inside the house, connect a hose to the bottom valve to direct the water out. Clean the tank and refill it. Another reason why you don't have hot water could be that the air pressure inside the tank may be low. Air may be escaping from the tank. The reason why there is hot water to the washer may be that it is closest to the hot water tank. To be honest, a service technician will be the best person to talk to.
