I have a new 20 sheen lacquered walnut coffee table. It's, I've been told vulnerable to both water staining and scratching. I've thought about coating with polyurethane after lightly scuffing with 400 grit sandpaper. With grandkids, dogs and other normal abuse it certainly needs protection. I can't explain why the manufacturer would finish with lacquer but that's no longer the problem. CAN I PUT POLYURETHANE ON THE LACQUERED SURFACE? IF NOT, WHAT WOULD YOU SUGGEST?
Help! Steve F.
