Exterior-grade plywood board is water-proof, and I will definitely use it. However, if your sub-floor is still in good condition, why add another layer on it? 5/8 of an inch is pretty good. Tiles crack not before of poor subfloor, but before the cement is not properly spread down on the floor before laying the tiles. Bear in mind that when you add another subfloor layer, you may have to cut the bottom of any doors around the kitchen.
