I have used a simple miter box to cut crown mouldings for both inside and outside corners, and I came up with pretty much precise cuts and joints. The key is to remember which sides to cut. For inside corners, the angle cut faces away for the joint. For outside corners, the angle cut faces towards the joint. Cut mouldings for inside corners with the moulded side facing up. Cut mouldings for outside corners with the moulded face down. You are still going to use some wood filler to fill up the joints no matter how careful you try to be when cuttting the mouldings. Be prepared to waste some mouldings while cuting due to trial and error. Experiment with some cheap, old mouldings first.
