A Handyman Helping Hand

Hello, I have a new kitchen sink fixture to install, with the usual spray nozzle, but the hole in the sink for the sprayer is used for the new dishwasher vent. The plumber said I needed the vent even though the dishwasher drain is attached to the sink drain, above the trap as usual. If I really don't need the vent, using the sink drain as I am, I'd like to remove it and use the sprayer in its place. Is the vent needed? Thanks! Mike
