A Handyman Helping Hand

wheelchair ramp

I need to build a simple ramp for my mother's motorized wheelchair so she can go from the house to the patio. However, I don't know what the formula is regarding how far out the ramp needs to go to accommodate the drop in height and still make it safe enough for her to maneuver on her own both going up and down. The drop itself is only 6" and the maximum space the ramp can extend is 85". I need to be sure when she gets to the bottom she'll still be able to make the necessary turn onto the patio. Ideally, the drop would be accomplished in 45" or less, leaving about 40" for the turn. If you have any information on this it would be greatly appreciated. J
