Julie, Here is what I would do. I would take off one cabinet door that I could live without. I would then see if it could be sanded or the top layer taken off. Bring it to "Home Depot" or a similar store and ask their advice on what type of stains you could apply. If you do not like any ideas that are given, then I would go home, paint the inside of the cabinet (where the door was removed) a complementary color to your kitchen (something bright). Then maybe add a few glass shelves to that particular cabinet (or paint the shelves the same color) and make that a place to put your favorite dishes or cookbooks. I did this in my last home and it brightened up the kitchen. If you know of anyone that is really handy, what about cutting out the center of each door leaving a lip and putting glass in. The glass, however, could get expensive. Just a few thoughts..........
