In Response To: garage door (Cindyursday, 31 May 2001, at 8:32 a.m.)

I assume that you have a remote garage door opener. How long ago did you replace the battery? Try putting a new battery. If you tried to open the door by pressing the wall-mounted switch, did you inadvertently depress the switch twice? The control switch, at least with my garage door opener, cycles through as follows: Depress once to close or open the door, depress twice to stop the door and leave it "cracked-open" for ventilation. Depress and hold down switch to "force" the door to close when a problem like you describe happens. The electronic beam may have gone out of alignment if you have accidently knocked the sensor on each side of the door. Sometimes a storm may have caused the electronics in the opener to go berseck. If all fail, try turning off and turning on the power to the opener. Or pull the plug of the opener out of the socket and plug it back in.
