In Response To: new home question (Jane)

Housewrap is a waste of money and time.

The engineering principal behind housewrap (TYVEK) is that it will allow water in vapor form to pass while disallowing cold air to penetrate.

Beneficial?

No. Not in my opnion as a home builder.

The average 2000 sf home costs $1200 to houswrap. DuPont, the makers of Tyvek claim you can save a maximum of $80 per year with their housewrap.

This means it takes AT LEAST 15 years for the installation of housewrap to pay for itself and any 'real' savings to begin....

No way..junk....
