Heater fan won't come on

Just replaced my analog thermostat with a digital model. It is a four wire system that controls both the heater and air conditioner. All functions of the heater and air conditioner worked normally before I changed the thermostat.

The controls on the unit are FAN (Auto or On), and one switch that allows the selection of HEAT, OFF, or AIR. And of course, there are TEMPERATURE SELECTION HIGHER/LOWER switches.

All functions work except that when in AUTO with HEAT selected, the forced air furnace burner lights, but the fan never comes on. If I turn the switch to AUTO or ON switch to ON, the fan runs and I get heat out of the vents. The fan does run if I have AIR selected.

If I leave the AUTO/ON switch in AUTO, eventually the burner extinguishes itself proving that the heater limit switch is working.
