Obviously, a sealer coat would need to be sprayed first, then spray your 'finish' coat.

Depending on age and condition, you may need to "wash down" with T.S.P.

You definitely need to "clean" the oily residue off all duct work before the sealer coat.

One minor trick I may give you is to coat electrical boxes, valves, etc. (metal components) with a thin coat of petroleum jelly (vaseline) before spraying which can be wiped off after final coat sets. This would be only in lieu of covering and taping.

Cover anything you don't want painted from the over-spray. Keep all windows open and an exhaut fan blowing outward.
