Subfloor help

Hello there, I have a damaged bathroom floor and need some advice on how to go about fixing it. The floor around the toilet and shower are both suffering from water damage. The floor is that peely sticky tiel stuff (god I hate that stuff) and these seem to have been laid stright over the subfloor (T&G slats). I know this needs to be replaced, but how do I attach the plywood?? Thankfully I have a basement...so can I attach the plywood to the joists nd then to the sound T&G boards from underneath? Does the new floor need to be anchored to the existing floor? Just a wee bit confused :) thanks for the input. Tiffany
