Yes, the negative cable is the one attached directly to the engine block or frame as opposed to the starter solenoid. Connect negative cable to negative post and positive cable to positive post. Make sure the area around and under the hood is ventilated because when a battery charges and discharges it gives of hydrogen gas which is extremely explosive. In my roughly 40 years of tinkering with cars I've had 2 batteries blow up on me. If the area is ventilated the small amount of hydrogen will dissipate eliminating the danger.
