A Handyman Helping Hand

temperature setting

I have a 2-zone gas heating system in my house. In the winter time, during the day, is it best to set the thermostat really low and then crank it up when you get home or is it best to turn it down just a few degrees. If you turn it down too far, doesn't it take a lot of gas to heat it up? Or you can turn it down a few degrees but then you're wasting the gas all day. Any thoughts? Thanks, jwc
