Snowblower Startup for Midwesterner

Hello! I've a Jacobsen snowblower w. electronic ignition (a 2nd hand gift from my 78 yr old son named Dad) which has sat for ca 2-3 yrs - of course, no manual. I tried adding the recommended 50:1 gas/oil mix, twiddled on the fuel valve to the recommended 2 turns open (cranked it open and then shut to ensure that the valve itself wasn't stuck), pushed in the power boost, pulled out the choke, and pressed the electronic ignition at the same time I pulled the starter ripcord. Lots of enthusiastic noise, but it only turned over once (& that time it died soonafter).

I have absolutely no experience w. this - plz don't assume knowledge of anything on this !!-- do you (all) have any ideas? (I live S of Chicago - guess why I'm interested?- about 20" interested! ;) Thanks in advance for your kind consideration!! (ps- plz. don't tell me to ask Dad - he could get a shock off a flashlight in a rainstorm - eg; has other gifts than being a handyperson ;)-- he insists he doesn't have the manual- I would go over to his place to search, but there's a 30"drift blocking my garage door (hence the snowblower!)
