In Response To: Getting into the business (Dean)

Dean,

I wish I could help you here, but I'm not.. and have never been 'for hire' as a handyman. My experience comes from 20 years in building and equipment maintenance for a large company. I have been out of that business for a number of years, and simply put up this site because I happened to learn some things over the years and don't mind sharing what I know when I can.

I suppose it would depend on what you where doing and how much you wanted to charge. I would think that insurance would be a must, but first you would need to decide just what you would be working on before going out to aquire it. I suspect that an electric or HVAC work would require higher levels of liability than say window replacement or woodwork.

I suspect that I would like to do it again someday after I retire, but doubt that I would do it for hire. Most of the time, when someone needs a handyman, the job isn't big enough to make out a bill for... (I could be wrong!:-) Good luck!

Don
