Storage Shelving

Posted By: Tyler Chapman

My home has limited storage capabilities and my wife thought that shelving along the wall of the garage could help alleviate some of the problem.

Since the shelves are going to support a heavy load, I am wanting to do this project with lumber, not a kit or other "cheapo" press board/tin metal support bracket sort of thing.

I am thinking of using 2x4's for the frame and moutning them directly to the wall studs, then using some heavy-duty type partical board for the shelves itself.

Where the problem lies, however, is that I don't quite know how to frame it (especially since it also has a window that I will need to frame around). I have looked on-line, but all the "shelving projects" revolve around the smaller scale, light weight variety and do not fit my needs.

So I guess what I'm requesting is...Is there any basic scematic available for framing stroage shelves? And, of course, I would love to hear of any helpful hints and "don't do's" from you as well.

Thank you in advance,

Tyler Chapman and Family
