Paul ------ One approach might be to drill a 1/2" hole thru the log, then drill into each side with the 4" hole saw and then remove any remaining wood with the 1/2" bit and/or a chisel and hammer. Another approach would be to drill a bunch of holes with a long bit(1/2" - 1") thru the log and then clean the hole out with the chisel and hammer. A third way might be to drill in as far as possible with the 4" hole saw, remove the saw, clean out the drilled portion(plug) and then insert the drill and repeat the process. Good luck, Roger
