Susan -------- Hopefully, the existing vapor barrier is not directly under the exterior plywood but on the inside of the wall studs(2x4's). This barrier keeps moisture from the heated living space from migrating into the insulation installed between the studs. On the outside of the walls however, you want to let any possible moisture escape and keep wind from penetrating into the house. That is why most new homes( at least in the midwest) use house wrap(made by several manufacturers, including TYVEK from DuPont) to stop wind but allow moisure to escape. This wrap should be nailed or stapled to the outside of the plywood, before the siding goes on. Good luck, Roger
