In Response To: Priming new wood (Ellen)

Ellen ------- I am not a painter but have discussed painting with many painters over the years. They almost always recommend oil-based primer and paint for exterior work. However, latex paints have improved greatly in recent years, and so a good latex primer and paint should last almost as long as oil. Oil is easier to put on and looks better(which is why many painters use it on interior trim) but the cleanup of tools is more difficult. Good luck, Roger
