paneling

i have recently bought a forclosed home and it was vacant for about 4 years . some of the walls had paneling on them and was pretty bad looking so we decided to change all of it . we installed brand new paneling through out the home and in finished basement. after a few days all the paneling began to buckle and is very wavy.we nailed the paneling to studs and in some places used glue.i'm wondering that maybe that the house sat so long with windows closed and the type of weather we have in maine cold and warm .that when the house was finaly opened up and could breath that the moister is trying to come out of the interior walls causing the buckling.
