A Handyman Helping Hand

decking

I have a fifties style ranch house with a cantilevered deck. The deck is supported by 4 x 8's, on 48 inch centers, which protrude approximately 6 feet from the house. The existing decking, which is laid across the 4 x 8's, is 2 x 8 x 16's. It may be fir, I don't know. What are my options in replacing this decking? Is there any dimension of redwood or cedar that would handle this span?Perhaps 2 x 10's? Maybe 2 each 2 x 8"'s splined together or tongue and grooved? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Greg
