Restaining older fence: SPRAY it or BRUSH it?

We have a cedar fence around our back yard. The fence has existed for 15+ years... a lot of the boards have been stained numerous times. Some of the boards have just been replaced this year and are not yet stained or primed. I did use CUPERNOL LATEX STAIN and brushed the whole fence 3 years ago. WOW, what a project!

I have decided to restain with solid color acrylic latex stain... I was thrilled to learn of stain (pump) sprayers. Then a friend (who used to work for a local hardware store) told me I had better brush the fence like before... he said the fence stain will "just peel like sheets" if I spray it. He said the stain will run down the fence (without really being absorbed) and accumulate much thicker at the bottom end of the boards.

Should I spray or brush? Your advice is greatly appreciated!
