In Response To: paneling; want smooth to paint (brennan)

The simplest option is to use joint compound to fill in the lines. Then sand, prime, and paint...a VERY tedious task.

If you absolutey must have smooth walls, you may instead install 1/4" drywall over the paneling and have it finished to a new paintable surface.
