In Response To: Re: MILDEW STAIN ON ROOF SHINGLES (Curt Bowens)

Curt -- It sounds like algae is the source of your problem. There are, in fact, mildew resistant shingles. These are most commonly available in the southeast, but can usually be special ordered through a local roofing supply if not readily available. The person who posted the original response makes the common mistake of not knowing about a product therefore claiming it to be non-existant. Follow this link and you can learn about your condition http://www.owenscorning.com/owens/around/roofing/troubleshooting.asp -- Good Luck!
