Camcorder Battery drain

My camcorder (Sharp, viewcam, manufactured in 1995, purchased refurbished from Sears this year) has a problem with the battery...i think. The battery that came with it only lasted about two minutes, fully charged, and so we figgered it was bad and bought a new one, 58 dollars, thank you, and now it only lasts about five minutes. I have tried to tape with the adapter and had no problems, but the battery always drains too fast. Is it: the battery,(doubtful, it's brand new) The CHarger and if so How do I find out and is it fixable or the CAMERA itself draining the battery too fast.

I know that the little lithium battery for the memory is no good, and will get a new one today, but could that affect my regular battery life? Any help greatly appreciated. Aloha, Eve from hawaii.
