A Handyman Helping Hand

treated wood

Someone just built us a decorative water trough from treated wood. We know it would not be safe to drink the water and that is not the problem. He said the wood would swell when we filled the trough and that would seal the leaks in the trough. So far, that has not happened. We wonder if treated wood really does absorb water enough to swell. Any thoughts or suggestions?
